Every fall, my porches get a fresh set of mums, pumpkins, and complementary accents. The beginning of the fall season is something I look forward to when the air turns crisp and my porches are ready for a fresh look.
If you’re like me, it’s always fun to let our creative juices start working as we choose the color scheme for the season. I like to start by selecting the color mums I want that year. Once I’ve settled on that, I picture every shade of pumpkin possible next to them.
Oftentimes, I will walk around a large pumpkin patch holding a bloom next to the pumpkins until the ideas start to click. From there, my mums and pumpkins set the stage, and the accents come together much more easily.

Over the years, many of my photos have been spread out and posted on Smiths Country Gardens. That’s why I’m so excited that Ashley and I now have our mother daughter blog where I can bring my past and present fall porch photos together in one place!
Below, I’m sharing many of my favorites and walking you through my thought process on each one. Be sure to click on them, because each porch has multiple photos!
Once you’ve had time to go through them, I would love for you to tell me in the comments which one is your favorite.
