margarita or rocks glass
- 1 oz. silver or blanco tequila
- 1 oz. orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier, Cointreau, or Triple Sec)
- ½ oz. agave nectar or simple syrup (plus more to taste)
- 2 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice
- 1 oz. fresh squeezed orange juice
- Ice
- Course salt and/or sugar (for rimming (optional))
- Lime and/or orange wedges (for garnish (optional))
Prepare the juice: Juice the limes and orange until you have the required amounts. Fresh juice is recommended for the best flavor.
Shake the cocktail: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, orange juice, and agave or simple syrup. Shake vigorously until well chilled. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
Prepare the glass (optional): If rimming the glass, rub a lime or orange wedge around the rim. Dip into a mixture of sugar and/or salt to coat. Fill the glass with ice.
Serve: Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass. Garnish with a lime or orange wedge and serve immediately.
Make ahead:
- Juice in advance: Fresh lime and orange juice can be squeezed ahead of time and stored in the fridge.
- Batch for a crowd: Multiply the ingredients and mix in a pitcher. Add ice when serving. And be sure to stir each time before you pour, to mix all of the ingredients back up.
- Prepare rims ahead: Mix salt and sugar in advance and rim the glass, so they are ready to go. If undisturbed, the salt and sugar mix will stay stuck to the rims.
To store:
- Store any leftover juice mixture (without alcohol) in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.
- Once mixed with alcohol, it's best enjoyed fresh for the best flavor.
